Pass Emissions Testing with Flying Colors
The world is on a green campaign. It means people are taking more notice and concern about the environment. This is because Mother Nature is already finding ways to bring back all the harmful deeds humans did before. Due to the disregard of the environment, disasters such as erosion, forest fire, global warming and diseases struck the earth. Politicians are taking matters seriously as well, that is why they passed the emission bill. The law now dictates that in some states, every vehicle should pass emission testing. If not, then it cannot be driven. This bill is enacted at some of the most populated states in the USA like the state of California. Old cars are not the only vehicles prone to failing the emissions testing. Even new cars can fail this as well. Here are some tips to help you pass emissions testing with flying colors.
Maintenance is the key in passing an emissions testing. An old car that is well maintained, with regular oil change and lube, can have cleaner exhaust than a five year old car that is left for granted by the owner. Car owners should also be careful on the modifications they do on their vehicles. Exhaust conversion can be scrutinized now. If you have exhaust leaks, you will definitely fail the emissions testing so be wary of it. If you want your exhaust to come out as clean as possible, make sure that you set up the timing of your car correctly. Make sure also that your gas caps are sealed. If not, the gas vapor can escape and this will cause issues with the authorities if they find out.
The exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve should be working well. If the EGR is damaged, the exhaust cannot be rerouted back to the manifold. Have also your oxygen sensor checked from time to time. The engine should have appropriate supply of oxygen all the time so it can burn the gas more efficiently. The more effective the gas is burned, the cleaner the exhaust will be.
Before you go to the emissions testing center, make sure that your car is in running condition. All fix ups should be corrected already. A single problem can directly affect the exhaust of the car since everything is connected. The most basic instruction for the driver is to check if there is a check engine light turned on. After that, make sure that all the exhaust modifications are emissions test capable. The timing should be fitted properly as well as the gas caps. Add a trusted fuel additive for this can significantly lower the carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and hydrocarbons emitted through the exhaust.
If you have done all this and yet you fail the emissions testing, you have no other choice but to go to a trusted mechanic or an AAA approved auto repair center. Let the experts have a look at your car to rectify the problem. By the time your vehicle leaves the auto repair center, it will be as good as new.
